Somewhere in the middle of the first summer of the pandemic I decided, “I should probably start recording a personal log in case the world ends.” Creating self-portraits seemed like the simplest way in, and had the added benefit of exercising my dexterity. What started as a casual exercise has turned into a deeply profound practice.
My work explores eroticism, ego and the parts of ourselves that we either highlight or obscure in exchange for love and belonging.
Personal Prompts
-
What does it mean to be experienced as an object of desire (see; Object of Desire Self-Conciousness Theory)?
-
How do we represent ourselves as authentic beings while simultaneously curating ourselves?
-
Where is the line between our personal power and delusion?
- What must we surrender, and how can we practice vulnerability in order to allow space for self-acceptance and actualization?
